CLOWNING IN ROME
Renowned contemplative author Henri Nouwen offers reflections from a season of life spent in Rome. It wasn't the red cardinals who had the most impact on Nouwen, but the city's clowns who brought refreshment between the great scenes of Rome's primary actors. In his own words, "The clowns are not the center of events. They appear between the great acts, fumble and fall and make us smile again after the tension created by the heroes we came to admire . . . In the same fashion, hidden ones embracing a life of prayer, solitude and genuine service are the true givers of life in a darkened world."
