A contemporary of Jonathan Edwards, David Brainerd (1718–1747) was a missionary to the Native American tribes of New York, New Jersey, and eastern Pennsylvania. His focus and devoted intercession enabled him to overcome tremendous challenges. Christians all over the world continue to be inspired by his life of self-denial, his sincere and strenuous labor on behalf of others, and his devotion to prayer. Brainerd died of tuberculosis at the age of twenty-nine. His life is worthy of study for anyone who desires to have an impact on the growth of the kingdom of God.
