Someone once falsely said, "Don't be so heavenly minded that youíre no earthly good." The revelation of eternal rewards is very practical, affecting our daily life choices right now. Gaining insight into our future rewards changes our current priorities, the way we view our life (success) and value our labor. This teaching imparts a biblical vision for this important but neglected truth!
The Judgment Seat of Christ and Eternal Rewards
It is not uncommon for people to go years without really evaluating the way they live their lives before God. They simply do not take seriously the fact that the greatest appointment of their life is right around the corner and the outcome of their eternal future is based upon their faithfulness today!
We must all stand before the judgment seat of Christ and give an account for the way we lived our lives. What Jesus says about us, as we gaze into His "eyes of fire" is the most important thing about our life. No one's opinion will count and no other information can manipulate Jesus' evaluation of the truth of the way we lived.
The good news is that Jesus gave more teaching on eternal rewards than anyone in Scripture, knowing their value, power and significance to believers (Mt. 5-7; Rev. 2-3). As Creator, He knows that the desires of our heart operate like a compass, directing the course of our life for good or evil (Pr. 4:23; Eccl. 3:11).
Therefore, He uses eternal rewards to align, motivate, and sustain the human heart in righteousness for the long-term. Whether facing persecution, seduction or simply the mundane seasons of routine life, eternal rewards are designed by God to strengthen our resolve to overcome and prevail over any challenge (Mt. 6:19-21; Lk. 12:33-34)!
