Zechariah: Studies in the End Times Notes
Zechariah is considered one of the most important prophetic books in the Bible dealing with the end times. It contains some of the most specific and comprehensive information for the Church, concerning end-time events which will occur in Jerusalem and the nations. This book informs us of God's end-time plan for the nation of Israel, of her coming glory and suffering, of the great battle at the close of this age, when the city of Jerusalem will be liberated by Jesus, the great Warrior-King, and of His future reign on the earth from Jerusalem, "The City of Truth" (Zech. 8:3).
God calls us to love and focus on Jerusalem because He does; indeed, Jesus calls Jerusalem His own "city of the great King" (Mt. 5:35). Therefore, we study Jerusalem's future destiny to understand and cultivate love for this city which is so important to Jesus (Zech. 8:2). The Lord will prosper all who love Jerusalem (Ps. 122:6). Zechariah's message brought a warning of trouble, yet held great promise for Jerusalem. He prophesied Jerusalem's future glory and suffering, heralding a time when Jewish apostasy would reach its zenith and then be swiftly followed by Israel's wholehearted devotion to Jesus.
Zechariah has much to say about the activities related to the return of Jesus and the future destiny of Jerusalem. The battle for the control of Jerusalem will be an intense spiritual, political, and military battle; it will be the decisive battle to end the Armageddon campaign at the time of Jesus' coming. All nations will gather against Jerusalem (Zech. 12:3; 14:2), and the battle for this city will be like a vortex, drawing all people into it, whether they want to be involved or not. Nations and individuals alike will be brought to a place of decision regarding the city of Jerusalem, which is destined to become "a praise in the earth" (Isa. 61:15).
